Books for the World

For as long as I can remember, I have loved books.  I love to read them and then pass them along.  My favorite ways of sharing right now include giving books that I have read to others, including ways that empower individuals.  One incredible endeavor  is Little Free Libraries — as in libraries run by individuals for individuals.  Little Free Libraries can be found around the world — and are often the only place to find books in virtual book deserts in cities and town.  Little Free Library stewards build and manage their libraries as part of their own commitment to foster literacy and engaged readers.

See what I’m talking about:

Another exceptional organization that is Darien Book Aid Plan.  Founded in 1947 by women committed to rebuilding the libraries, schools, and universities in war-ravaged Europe, Darien Book Aid Plan has sent tons of books around the world as well as here in the United States, focusing primarily on schools, libraries and other community organizations.  I have been a proud board member of this organization — and love filling boxes with books for specific requests.
