Friends of the Heart

I miss you more

Than I need to be mourning our past

I want my old friend

Friends are scattering off to wonderful new adventures, long-dreamed-of opportunities. We celebrate, exchange gifts, and cheer one another on.

Then the reality slams hard — of distance, of missing connections, of brewing a cup of coffee that is not shared the way that we used to do. This is the mixed blessing of passionate friendship with interesting, lively people — paths part just when you think you’ve got a fellow traveler forever at your side. They’re there — just not in person, not at your side — carried in your heart, your memories, and anticipating the stories to come. I’m not completely convinced, but am doing my best to believe that.

Time for my own excellent adventure — off I go…

Dark sunglasses on

Eager feet dance in sneakers

Get out, start walking…
